Big Chief RV Resort is located on Lake Buchanan, allowing guests an endless list of water and outdoor recreation. The weather is pleasant and the water is inviting; enjoy boating, skiing, swimming, and excellent fishing. Predominant species in Lake Buchanan include an abundance of striped and white bass, catfish, and crappie. Whether you cast a line from shore or a boat, you'll have a great time trying to reel in the big one. Boat ramp is open to the public for a nominal fee but all other Resort facilities including use of the beach are only available to overnight guests. There are numerous outfitters, marinas, and guide services on the lake offering rentals, boat docks, and fishing trips, so you can get the most out of your stay on Lake Buchanan. The resort offers a boat launch ramp and courtesy docks where you can arrange for local outfitter guides to pick you up. The lake is so vast that you will never feel crowded. The lake features a nice granite gravel shoreline, providing the ideal beach for swimming, wading, and sunbathing. Bring a picnic, watch the native bird species from shore, or fly a kite! The possibilities are truly endless. Other lakes in the Highland Lakes chain include Lake Travis, Inks Lake, and Lake Marble Falls.
The surrounding area also offers additional outdoor opportunities including hiking, biking, horseback riding, exploring caves, viewing waterfalls, and picnicking at the many beautiful natural sites of the Texas Hill Country. Birding is a popular activity in the area as well, attracting tourists and bird enthusiasts from all over. The Highland Lakes and Hill Country region are home to 600 of the 900 species found in the USA. Visit Enchanted Rock State Natural Area or Inks Lake State Park, where visitors can get set up with their binoculars and guide books and enjoy a morning or afternoon of bird watching. Look for Bald Eagles, the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Great Blue Herons, mallards, and roadrunners. Wildlife includes an abundance of white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, ringtails, opossums, and armadillos.
Be sure to visit the nearby wineries, state parks, and unique points of interest including the Vanishing Texas River Cruise, Marble Falls, and Longhorn Cavern State Park.
